- As of April 2008, UOL started operating its own hosting platform, the UOL HOST. Developed through a strategic partnership with Plug In and Digiweb, in addition to in-house development, the platform has become a national benchmark in this segment. According to the magazine Info of the publisher Abril, UOL HOST offers the best cost/benefit hosting plans, besides website construction and e-mail management services.
The Company’s flagship portal in Brazil is organized into 42 thematic stations with more than 1,000 channels of news, information, entertainment, and services, representing a total of more than seven million pages. UOL’s extensive interactive platform offers communications products, VoIP, Internet communities, security and search engine, among others.
UOL provides local Internet access in more than 3,000 cities throughout Brazil and 29,000 cities abroad. The Company has approximately 1.74 million content paying subscribers. Since September 1999, UOL has also operated a portal and Internet Service provider in Argentina.
We maintained our leadership in page views and time spent online among content portals in Brazil, with 1,600 million page views and the average time spent online being 57 minutes and 29 seconds in June 2008, according to IBOPE//NetRatings. Also, according to IBOPE//NetRatings, in June 2008 we recorded a 27% year-on-year increase in unique visitors, in line with the market growth.
UOL Busca ended June 2008 with almost 5.2 million unique residential visitors per month, coming second in the IBOPE//NetRatings search ranking. According to IBOPE//NetRatings, UOL lead alone the news category on the Internet in Brazil, with information updated 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The Company has its own teams of reporters in addition to reliable sources of information in Brazil and abroad, including Folha Online, Reuters, France Presse, and BBC.
